Exploring inclusive pedagogies in early childhood education

“Inclusive Pedagogies for Early Childhood Education: Respecting and Responding to Differences in Learning” by Carmel Conn and Alison Murphy, published in 2022, offers an exploration of inclusive pedagogies in early childhood education. Carmel Conn, Associate Professor in Inclusive Pedagogy at the University of South Wales, and Alison Murphy, Lecturer in Primary Education Studies at University of Wales Trinity St David, explore theoretical perspectives and empirical research to illuminate everyday practices that celebrate diversity in learning, disability, and culture.

The book examines pedagogical approaches aimed at fostering educational inclusion for young children, addressing key issues such as children’s learning subjectivities, the socio-material realities of early childhood learning environments, and the perspectives of both children and adults on learning and difference.

Drawing on innovative research methodologies including conversation analysis, phenomenological enquiry, and participant ethnography, the authors synthesise insights from experts in the field to advance understanding of how young children experience and perceive inclusion.
